Entertain guests or settle in for the night with this sweet and spicy mango-jalapeño salsa!

Summer’s nearly over (in India, at least), which means it’s our last chance to make the most of those juicy, delicious mangoes before they’re no longer in season. Let’s be honest — after one point, one runs out of desserts to incorporate fruit into, and after all, there’s only so much fruit one can eat.

The only solution? When life gives you mangoes, make mango salsa.

A week ago, my parents had some friends over and being the over-enthusiastic person that I am, I offered to cook dinner. As usual, it was two hours to dinner and I certainly didn’t have enough food for 10 people. And that’s when the idea of mango salsa came to rescue!

Fruit salsas have become very popular in the blog world. I finally tried my hand at it and was pleasantly surprised. By the end of the evening, I received plenty compliments, not for the elaborate dishes I spent hours putting together but for something else: the mango salsa.

While I am not particularly fond of mangoes, the salsa is quite delectable — a blend of sweet and spicy with a little tangy kick of the lime juice! It’s easy to put together and makes for a great (and surprisingly healthy!) snack with tortilla chips.

Jalapeño-mango salsa
Serves 5


4 mangoes (ripe but firm) cut into tiny cubes
1 tbsp. cilantro, finely chopped
2 tbsp. lime juice, freshly squeezed
4 tbsp. finely chopped jalapeños (add more if desired. If you like it hot, add 2 tbsp. more)


Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix. Refrigerate, but be sure to bring it to room temperate before serving. Serve with tortilla chips or meat, like pork chops.
