Halloween isn’t just for children; adults can enjoy the scary holiday with creative home-made costumes, with an almost endless variety to choose from!

Halloween is an exciting time for adults as well as children. After all, just because you are too old for the ‘trick or treat’ tradition, does not mean you are past the age for fancy dress and party costumes. There are all sorts of potential costume ideas and make-up inspiration to draw from during this time of year.

If you are looking to go as something traditional, go after the vampire, skeleton and witch costumes. These are gender neutral and can be adapted and altered to suit you and your style. There are various skeleton-style one-pieces available, as well as suitable make up to paint your face in skeletal designs. Vampires also provide the perfect look for Halloween; you can pair dresses with accessories such as collars and teeth or if you’re male, you can pretty much wear anything and accessorise.
Witches are an easy costume to master; just wear something black and invest in a suitable hat. If you want to go all out, get yourself a broom!

Other costume ideas that are more modern draw from scary movies, the media and celebrities. The film Black Swan, has inspired a gothic ballerina look during Halloween since its release. It is a perfect and quirky look for girls who aren’t aiming to look too scary. A black dress or tutu is suitable with black wings if possible, heavy feather shaped eye make-up, white face paint and red contact lenses. All this will have you looking like the perfect swan in no time. People often dress up as their idols such as Madonna or animated characters. This year, a costume set to be popular is the costume of Elsa from the hit film Frozen.

Other films that have inspired costumes are Saw and Scream. If you do your research. there are an endless amount of costumes to choose from within the movie world. Outfits such as zombie brides and zombie cheerleaders have become popular following the rise of horror movies, which are easy if you go for a standard bridal or cheerleading outfit and just add scary make-up and fake blood.

Be creative and use what you already have in your wardrobe this Halloween. It is easy to get the perfect look with the outfits you already have – simply use accessories and do a Halloween make up!
