SUVA – Fiji authorities continue to remain silent and have failed to give any explanations as to why a military officer, who is wanted for sexual assault in Suva, has been allowed to ignore court summons for the second time now.

Matairavulais is wanted in connection with the videotaped beating of a prison escapee.

In October, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had confirmed that the accused, Pita Matairavula, would be produced in court once they know bout his whereabouts.

Fiji’s police officials have said that they’re currently in the process of locating Matairavula, who happens to be absconding.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has made an observation in  a recently released statement – Matairavula was presented in a separate alleged rape case in a Lautoka court and granted bail, following which he was allowed to walk free. The question remains as to why he was allowed to walk free, especially when he was expected to appear in Suva for a separate case.

Police officials too haven’t given an explanation as to why they failed to locate Matairavula, when he had been summoned and appeared in Lautoka.
