The end of Fantastic Beasts left us with an unexpected revelation, Johnny Depp was Grindelwald! Up until that point I think we all thought that Colin Farrell would play all versions of Grindelwald, brunette or blond. But no Johnny Depp shall be Grindelwald, much to the surprise of many fans.
However, this is not the only surprise Potter fans have encountered. It has been announced that Jude Law shall play the young Dumbledore in the sequel Fantastic Beasts movie. It’s said the film will explore his younger years when he was a mere professor.
For fans this is set to be an exciting film as Dumbledore has led an interesting life and there are plenty of storylines that they could explore. It shall also be interesting to see how the dynamic between Johnny Depp and Jude Law works out. Grindelwald and Dumbledore are meant to be old friends turned enemies, it is Dumbledore who defeated him in the best duel known to wizard kind after all. Will they be able to pull that off?
There are many questions going into this sequel and really the story could go any which way. It is to be directed by David Yates and shall still follow Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). However, I think we shall get to see more of his past and learn more about his relationship/friendship with Leta Lestrange (Zoe Kravitz). The film is set to be released in 2018.
With two years to go there is plenty of time to read and to speculate about what the second instalment shall be about and how good it shall be. From the first movie Fantastic Beasts can only continue to grow and improve in terms of movie quality.
Don’t forget there shall be five instalments all together. So this Jude Law surprise may be the first of many surprises.
