The first trailer for war thriller Darkest Hour has been released, giving us a glimpse of an almost unrecognisable Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, a role that seen him spend over 200 hours in the makeup chair.

Directed by Joe Wright, it follows the controversial leader in his early days as Prime Minister as he is tasked with a decision that will change the future of the country forever: should the UK negotiate a peace treaty with Nazi Germany or go to war?

It will be the second Churchill biopic this year after Jonathan Teplitzky’s Churchill starring Brian Cox and John Slattery but with less than favourable reviews and a disappointing 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, film critics are expecting a better performance from Darkest Hour.

The movie will debut on the bug screen on November 22 in the US and January 12 2018 in the UK.
