When you are picking the best songs for any year, it is always difficult to place which song should be number one. There are so many different music genres and people have so many different opinions on music. Therefore, the listings below are based on which songs have sold highly this year and when asking people ‘what is the best song for the year’ the one that has come up most frequently.

  1. Dangerous Woman – Ariana Grande

Over the past year Ariana Grande really has become a dangerous woman with all the rumours flying around but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t still crazy about her! The song was released in March 2016 and then debuted at number 10 on Billboard Hot 100. There’s just something about Ariana Grande that the public can’t get enough of.

  1. I took a pill in Ibiza – Mike Posner (SeeB Remix)

For a few months, this song was all anyone could talk about, especially with sarcastic memes on Facebook. Either way, you couldn’t walk into a club without hearing this song. Hopefully Mike has earnt all his money back from song instead of ‘spending it on girls and shoes’. This was considered Mike Posner’s come back song after going quiet after ‘Cooler than me’. Hopefully after 2016 we will see Posner back for good.

  1. Secret Love Song – Little Mix

Now this song technically came out in December 2015 but only debuted at 66 in January 2016 so here at The Global Panorama we decided not to exclude it. It was only in April 2016 that the chart was certified gold for selling 400,000 copies in the UK. The Little Mix girls have certainly made this year entertaining by bringing us attitude and great catchy music. How could we not include this little gem?

  1. When the Bassline Drops – Craig David ft Big Narstie

This song was rumoured to be Craig David’s return to garage world and this year he has not disappointed us by bringing out tune after tune! This song finally peaked at number 10 in the charts and started everyone off in the new year! I think we should still expect some big things from this duo for next year

  1. Work From Home – Fifth Harmony ft Ty Dollar Sign

This group surprised us with this song this year and has become one of the most popular songs for the year. Fifth Harmony have sold 1.2 million copies of this single to date and it is still one of those songs you will get stuck in your head and humming for days!

  1. Love Yourself – Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber. I reckon before you even began reading this article that you knew Bieber would be featured on this list somewhere. Well, I don’t like to disappoint. Even if you don’t like Bieber, it is very hard to deny just what a great year he has had for music. Love Yourself made its way into many people’s playlists and it just shows that Bieber has got a lot more talent in store for us yet.

  1. Closer – The Chainsmokers ft Halsey

This song has got stuck in many people’s head and it’s very hard not to love it. Closer has become the 3rd top selling song in the USA after selling 2.1 million copies. With such a catchy EDM style beat, it has become a hit and has creeped onto playlists with most people knowing they were the same people that brought out the S.E.L.F.I.E a few years back.

  1. Work – Rihanna

Rihanna is another typical contender for this list and it would have been rude not to include her. This song is one of the best for 2016 even if no one knows what the lyrics really say doesn’t mean they won’t try and sing along to it anyway and pull out some Beyoncé type moves on the dancefloor.

  1. Sorry

Of course Bieber deserves another mention. Just remember that this is the publics opinion! Sorry has one of the most annoyingly catchy beats and once you’ve got this song in your head you’ll be whistling the tune for weeks. Not just that but you’ll be pulling off all kinds of moves as well! Just because Bieber isn’t out King for top song this year doesn’t mean that he doesn’t deserve due credit especially when he sold 2.1 million copies of this song.

  1. One Dance – Drake ft Wizkid and Kyla

One Dance is Global Panorama’s winner for the top song for 2016. When you look at how often you hear this song it is not surprising either. This song has now been named Billboard’s top 2016 song of the summer and according to Spotify it has become the most played song with over 1 billion individual streams. We think that Drake deserves the crown this year. Congratulations Drake!

That’s it for our top 10 songs for this year. With Drake taking the crown, it will be interesting to see who will be top next year!
