Well, I don’t know what is being discussed more about The American Music Awards (AMAs) at the moment. – the winners, Selena Gomez’s emotional speech or the political comments from the celebrities. Here at The Global Panorama we are here to give you a round-up of the awards for those busy bodies that missed it. A full list of the winners for the awards can be found at the bottom of this article.
The 2016 American Music Awards was aired on Sunday, November 20, 2016 on ABC by honouring the most influential artists in the business. The awards are selected by the interactions from fans by looking at the album and single sales, activity on social media and popular trends. The show also hosted a number of performers for the show including Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes.
Moving onto the winners, it looks as though Justin Bieber was on fire this year by taking home 4 different awards for the pop/rock genre including favourite male artist. His ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez also won the favourite female for the same genre and impressed audiences with a heartfelt speech about her time off for depression and anxiety. This has left many fans with tears in their eyes as they were inspired by her honesty.
Bieber and Gomez weren’t the only ex-couple to win favourite male and female artists categories. Rihanna won three different awards, one of which for the Soul and R&B genre for the favourite female artist, whilst Chris Brown won the favourite male artist for the same genre. Looks as though the two couples were better to go their separate ways. Drake also won 3 different categories and also was nominated for 13 different awards. Before this, Michael Jackson held the record with the most nominations, but I guess Drake took a page out of MJ’s book and just ‘beat it’.
It is worldwide news that since Trump has officially been elected in there have been a mixture of comments about this from American citizens. The celebrities at the AMA’s were very happy to make loud their opinions on this election. Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day, made it clear that he was anti-Trump when he began a chant stating ‘No Trump. No KKK. No fascist USA.’ over one of their songs.
Well, the AMA’s promised to entertain us and it sure as hell did not disappoint.
