LONDON – The Global Fashion Awards are in their third annual year and London has the privilege of hosting this huge event on the back of New York, who had hosted the event last year. GFA is the only ceremony that recognizes and honours fashion on a global scale, making them a must in the world of fashion. With the awards set to kick off on Bonfire Night, 5th November, preparations are in full swing in the hope that event goes off and ends with a bang.
The event itself is being hosted in the Savoy hotel, a British icon since 1889, which has recently undergone a massive face-lift under a new ownership. The hotel embraces elements of the old and new with the English Edwardian and Art Deco interiors, making it the perfect host for such a prestigious event.
The shortlist for the event was released on October 3rd at the W Hotel in London. The designers themselves expressed their excitement at the global reach of the awards, with nominees not just including large retailers but smaller ones such as Marks and Spencer and ASOS.
Max Kerry, head of sales for The Cambridge Satchel Company described the event as being as ‘important as panto in terms of colour’ and Patrick Grant designer of E Tautz explained the event’s individuality comes from being ‘pitched in the ring with every nations fashion talent’.
The categories are broken down into three sections, designer as an individual, as a team and store design, with several categories that follow under each section. Some of the awards that are up for grabs fall into the categories of best emerging designer, best women’s wear design team, best store and best E-store. With the categories covering a whole range of fashion such as denim, intimates, kids wear and sportswear it creates a diverse range and allows many news and different designers to be congratulated and recognised.
