ALHUCEMAS – A Spain-bound vessel sunk off the coast of Morocco on 25th October and over 12 passengers are reportedly dead. However, according to Moroccan minister of communication Mustapha Kalfi, a rescue search for more survivors is presently underway.

The vessel sunk last Thursday off the Moroccan city of Alhucemas in the Mediterranean Sea as the ship was on its way to Morocco. According to Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service, the vessel was discovered 18 miles from the Moroccan coast.

Over 60 people, allegedly migrants headed to Europe were aboard the ship and the 17 survivors, who were rescued were transported back to Morocco. Currently, many Africans in search of a better life have escaped their homelands by boat determined to reach Europe but some unfortunately face the same fate of death and the ones that are lucky enough to make it through learn quickly that life is equally hard in Europe. This in itself shows the desperation generally on the continent with many Africans placing their lives at risk for the chance of a better future.
