HOBARA – Are you a roller-coaster fan? An attraction park addict? If you also have nerves of steel, go test them in this deserted amusement park in Hobara, Japan.

Takakanonuma Greenland opened in 1973 and shut down after two years, the reason still being unclear. Some say it was due to disappointing ticket sales while locals claim it was because several people ‘accidentally’ died on rides. The park re-opened in 1986, and closed again in 1999.

There is no official information available about the park or the reason behind it going out of business. It is situated in the middle of a forest that is now slowly swallowing the rusty leftovers. Takakanonuma Greenland opened in 1973 and shut down  has disappeared from the Japanese map and it is often completely hidden from sight by heavy mist.

Still want to check it out?  As it is close to Fukushima, the nuclear power plant that recently melted down, this is probably not the best idea. Initially designed for people to have fun, Takakanonuma now is the place-to-be for people who want to scare themselves senseless. If this place was still accessible to be in, Takakanonuma Greenland would have been any horror lover’s fantasy destination.
