Solomon Islands recently hosted the 2013 Miss South Pacific Beauty Pageant along with the annual Miss Beauty and Charity Pageant in the capital city, Honiara. This island nation in the Pacific Ocean comprises 992 islands located in the northeast of Australia, southeast of Papua New Guinea, and in the north of Vanuatu. Solomon Islands have six major islands – Choisuel, New Georgia, Santa Isabel, Guadalcanal, Malaita, and San Christobol.

Language and People
Solomon Islands are home to approximately 5,00,000 population, with the majority of about 93% made up of Melanesians, followed by Polynesians (4%), Micronesians (1.5%), and others including Chinese (less than 1%). Christianity is the religion for about 95% of the population.

There are about 74 local languages exist in Solomon Islands, of which 70 are living languages. English is taught at schools and is the official language, but about half of the population also speaks a language mixed of English and Melanesian called Pidgin. Here is a list of Pidgin words.

Activities and Tours
Solomon Islands have a perfect weather for more than 300 days a year, which is a paradise to many travelers. You can experience many activities such as trekking to the top of waterfalls and volcanoes, and lying in a hammock under the shade of palm trees. Apart from that, swimming, snorkelling, and diving are several of the most popular activities in Solomon Islands.

Solomon Islands are the perfect getaway for couple in seeks of romantic place and for families to spend time joining activities on and off the water. Beautiful arts and crafts are also available for shopping and the people of Solomon Islands are master at wood and stone.

For land activities, you can join day city tours, island hopping and volcanoes, cycling, walking, golfing, and exploring waterfalls. Several of the water activities are fishing and sailing, diving, cruising, surfing, kayaking, and enjoying beaches. You may also take the World War II tours to learn about the history by visit the WWII museum and seeing wreckage.
