HARRISBURG – North-east America is expected to be affected heavily over the weekend by a fast-moving snow storm stretching over 1,000 miles.
Utilities, airports and local officials have been preparing for the impending consequences such as power outage, flight delays and slick roads.
A possibility of snow as thick as six to 12 inches in New England, 14 inches along the coast of Maine, eight inches in areas in areas north and west of New York City and interior Pennsylvania, and about half a foot in parts of Ohio have been predicted by the National Weather Service.
About 940 flights have been cancelled so far, mainly in the Northeast and Midwest, and mostly by ExpressJet and United. Metro-North, the commuter railroad serving New York may reduce or halt services due to the storm. Two state high school football championship games in Pennsylvania have been pushed back by a day, to Sunday from Saturday.
