PARIS – The controversial humorist, Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, might see his one-man show in Nantes prohibited by the local prefect because of the racial and anti-semitic tensions it could probably create. This is what the French government’s spokeswoman, Nadja Vallaud-Belkacem, said today at French channel i-Télé. Mrs. Vallaud-Belkacem added that the French PM Jean-Marc Ayrault and the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Valls, will finalise the circular today, which will recommend the country’s prefects to prohibit any of M’bala M’bala’s shows as soon as there is an evident risk for public order. Such a measure has been made necessary after anti-racism and Jewish associations across the country firmly condemned Dieudonné’s shows, during which he repeatedly made explicit anti-Semitic jokes and affirmations on the Holocaust or on how the world is supposedly ruled by a “Zionist-American axis of power”. The humorist is also accused by these associations of introducing the quenelle, an anti-jewish gesture, which became known worldwide after footballer Nicolas Anelka did it during a match last week.
