DUBLIN — A man has been held in custody after stabbing his landlord to death in a ‘ritualistic style of killing’ following an argument they had over a chess match.
Saverio Bellante, 34, from Palermo, Sicily supposedly cut open his landlord’s chest and tried to eat his heart. He admitted to murder in court and said he did not want any legal representation. The police in Dublin called the killing “unpleasant and bizarre.”
The murderer had been living in Ireland for the past two years and has been working for a multinational company.
Tom O’Gorman, 39, was killed in his home just before 2 am in the morning in the Castleknock district of west Dublin. He suffered multiple knife wounds to his head and chest. They were so severe that a lung was missing.
O’Gorman worked as a researcher for the Iona Institute, which is a Dublin-based traditional Catholic campaign that promotes marriage and religion.
The murderer even called the police after the fatal incident and told them of how he had cut open O’Gorman’s chest and tried to eat his heart after an argument over a chess match. He is in custody and will appear at Cloverhill district court on January 17. Also, the judge has ordered for him to be given a medical assessment in Cloverhill prison.
The man killed was living in his family home until 2012 when his mother died. Murderer Bellante had been living in the same house for some months before the attack.
