Gene Simmons

I was doing my usual sweep through various music news websites and one article was so ridiculous I could not help but to write about it.  The headline read, ‘A piece of gum chewed by KISS star Gene Simmons on live TV has sold at auction for £153,800.’

Now I have always liked KISS as a band and their mark on the rock world has been huge. They are renowned for their dedicated fan group dubbed the ‘KISS ARMY’ and, arguably, have the largest collection of band merchandise in the world. But the thought that a fan of Gene Simmons would wish to invest such a large quantity of money is unfathomable. The gum in question was chewed when Simmons made an appearance on Soccer AM, which he then offered to put on an eBay charity listing last week.

The starting price was a mere 99p, but slowly the price increased, and up to the final hour people were bidding on this ‘valuable’ item until they reached the final price of £153,800. The money raised from this Ebay event is due to go to a charity called ‘Street League’ which helps fight youth unemployment in the United Kingdom.

Well, whichever KISS fan forked out the huge sum certainly has a piece of memorabilia that nobody else will have. However, the real question is, how many people would really want this special piece of merchandise?
