Planning a party? Celebrating a special occasion? As the season of mulled wine has come to an end, there is no better time than the new year to experiment with some DIY cocktails! These exotic, yet quick and simple, recipes will revamp any alcohol you may have left over from the festive celebrations. Cheers!
1. The Classic Mojito — A Cuban drink literally meaning ‘something wet’
Ingredients:
. 1 part rum
. 0.5 parts lime Cordial
. 3 parts soda water
. A wedge of fresh lime
. Ice
Add apple liquor as well as rum for an apple variation
2. The Stylish Cosmopolitan – Enjoyed all around the world since the 1980s, it was Carrie in Sex and the City who brought this one its modern fame
Ingredients:
. 1.5 parts vodka
. 1 part cointreau
. 1 part cranberry yuice
. Dash of lime juice
3. Woo Woo – The perfect solution for parties as everyone enjoys it
Ingredients:
. 1 part vodka
. 1 part peach schnapps
. 4 parts cranberry juice
. Ice
4. Margarita – A refreshing Mexican cocktail. Perfect for the summer, so get practising!
Ingredients:
. 7 parts tequila
. 4 parts cointreau or triple sec
. 3 parts lime juice
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip it in salt for a true Margarita experience. If you find this too sour, try sugar instead.
5. Pimm’s – Created in 1823 by James Pimm, this drink has stood the test of time and is still a British favourite.
Ingredients:
. 1 part Pimm’s
. 2 parts lemonade
3. Sliced apple, lemon, orange and cucumber
Add sparkling white wine instead of lemonade for some extra fizz.
6. Sangria – The beauty of this cocktail is you can experiment with your favourite fruits, spices and liquors to create subtle variations.
Ingredients:
. 3 parts red wine
. A wedge of lemon
. An orange wedge
. 1 part brandy
Add a dash of ginger ale or club soda for an extra kick
