PESHAWAR — At least 21 people, including 19 students, are reported to have been killed in a deadly bus crash in Pakistan on Wednesday.

The accident happened on Qazi Ahmed Link Road. Reports claim that the school bus, transporting the students back from a competition trip in Nawabshah, collided with a truck. The road is about 270 kilometres north of Karachi, in the southern province of Sindh.

The students were from the Bright Future School in Daulaptur. Doctor Hashim Langa, head of the Civil Hospital in Nawabshah, reported that 21 dead bodies have been received, of which 19 were children. ”Their ages range from five or six to 16,” he said.

The police identify the cause of the accident as reckless driving. They are in the process of trying to locate the truck driver, who ran away from the scene.

“We are investigating the reasons, but apparently it must have been irresponsible driving by one of the drivers,” senior police officer Asif Ali Pechuho commented.

The driver of the bus was among the casualties.
